A Year 10 student at Kings Academy in Cheddar has tested positive for coronavirus, meaning 70 pupils will now be learning from home.

A spokesperson for the school confirmed the positive Covid-19 case this morning (November 11) and said that, following discussions with Public Health England, 70 students will now not return to school until November 23.

This is the second positive coronavirus case at Kings, following a sixth form student testing positive in September.

The spokesperson said: "Public Health England South West and Somerset County Council's Public and Education teams are working together to support pupils, parents and staff following a confirmed case of Covid-19 at the school.

"Close contacts of the confirmed case in Year 10 have been provided with public health advice and are self-isolating for the recommended 14 days.

"A comprehensive deep clean of the affected areas of the school is being undertaken. School staff and parents have been provided with public health advice including what to do if someone becomes symptomatic.

"Public Health England has provided the school with advice on infection prevention and control."
