80th wedding anniversary couple from Blackford 'did not stop smiling' during celebrations

By Tim Lethaby 2nd Jun 2020

Eric and Nancy Kingston, the Blackford couple who marked their 80th wedding anniversary yesterday (June 1), did not stop smiling throughout their celebrations.

The Somerset born and bred couple, who first met on Westhay Bridge and married in 1940, celebrated their oak anniversary at their home with a number of family and friends present.

On the beautiful summer's evening in Blackford, there was certainly cause to celebrate. Friends, family and people from the village came together standing two metres apart outside the home of Nancy and Eric to celebrate their 80 years of marriage.

The people clapped, the Blackford Singers sang Happy Together, and adults and children had designed and coloured beautiful letters, holding them up high to spell out "Happy 80th Anniversary".

One of the villagers told Cheddar Nub News: "It was a truly remarkable and a very happy occasion, showing a wonderful community spirit - Nancy and Eric did not stop smiling."

Nancy, who turns 100 later this year, said: "We're still holding hands and we still love one another."
