A man had to be freed from a van after it tipped on to its side in a road near Charterhouse last night (February 11).

Just before 9pm, three fire appliances from Wells and Shepton Mallet along with the rescue tender from Glastonbury attended Ubley Drove, near Charterhouse, after reports of a vehicle on its side and a man trapped inside.

On arrival, crews found one van on its side and got to work stabilising the vehicle.

By 9.50pm the casualty was able to walk from the vehicle after crews used a saw to cut through the windscreen so he could get out.

The casualty was then in the hands of paramedics while fire crews made the vehicle and scene safe.
