Plans have been submitted to Sedgemoor District Council for the creation of a riding arena and stable block on land near Wedmore.

A planning application for the change of use of agricultural land to equestrian use with the building of a timber stable block and 40m by 20m manège on land to the west of Mill Stones, Heath House, near Wedmore, has been submitted by Ms N Durston.

The applicant has extended their property by purchasing more than six acres of agricultural

pastureland situated to the west of Mill Stones.

They have four horses for their own personal and recreational use, currently housed on a livery yard.

The applicant wishes to site the horses closer to their property in order to have full access and be able to monitor them from the view of the residential property.

As the land offers no sufficient housing facilities for horses, it is proposed to build an L-shaped timber stable.

To reduce the amount of poaching on the surrounding land, it is proposed to construct the manège situated within close proximity to the stable block to exercise the horses all-year round.

Other planning applications in the Cheddar area that have been submitted to Sedgemoor District Council this week include:

Retrospective application for the erection of two non-illuminated signs at land off Upper New Road, Cheddar, has been made by Taylor Wimpey.
