A planning application for a cottage in Cheddar to be demolished and two houses be built in its place, has been given the green light by Sedgemoor District Council.

The application for the building of two detached dwellinghouses on the site of an existing dwelling to be demolished at 1 Steart Bushes, Wedmore Road, Cheddar, was made by Stean Williams.

The applicant sought to demolish the existing dwelling, a stone-built cottage, and build two detached houses, which would be two-storey, with accommodation in the roof and a single dormer to the rear.

Two parking spaces per dwelling will be provided to the side of the site, and the new houses will cover almost the same footprint as the current cottage.

Cheddar Parish Council initially objected to the plans, saying that the stone from the demolished building was not going to be reused or recycled, that the design of the new homes was too urban for the village setting, and that the building materials were not in keeping with the setting.

However, their objections were addressed in the planning application process, and Sedgemoor have now given the proposals the go-ahead.
