There was a large police presence, including the force's helicopter, in Cheddar in the early hours of this morning (February 5) to search for a van following a pursuit from Wells.

At 12.40am officers sighted a silver van driving at excessive speed in Woodford Road in Wells.

Officers followed the vehicle as it headed along the A371 towards Cheddar.

However, sight of the van was lost as it approached the village.

A thorough search of the area was conducted by officers on the ground and the police helicopter, but the vehicle could not be located and normal patrols resumed at 1.50am.
