With just a couple of weeks to go before this year's Somerset Day on May 11, family cider-maker Thatchers is flying the flag for Somerset and encouraging local lovers of cider to do the same.

Thatchers has been making cider at its farm in Sandford for four generations, and with these roots in the area, the business is keen to be supporting the Fly the Flag campaign this year.

Organisers of the county's special day, Somerset Day, are asking people to Fly the Flag for Somerset over the weekend of May 8 and 9, and through to Somerset Day on May 11, whether that's with bunting in their gardens, or pictures in their windows.

"This is a great opportunity to show your support of this wonderful place we live in and fly the flag for Somerset," said Martin Thatcher, who is born and bred in the county.

"We've been making cider at Myrtle Farm since 1904, and there's no doubt this is the best place in the world to be living and working.

"It's definitely the best place to be making cider - we're very proud to be able to put the words Somerset Cider on our labels."

Thatchers will be running a social media campaign in the run up to Somerset Day, so keep an eye out on its channels for chances to win bundles of Somerset goodies.

As a founding partner of Somerset Day, Thatchers will also have some special offers in its cider shop, and also marking the day in the Railway Inn, Sandford.
