Appeal for designers to help transform town for Axbridge Pageant

With the Axbridge Pageant set to be staged next year, the hunt is on for a designer or designers to take on the work of transforming the town Square.

There is a written 'Guide' and props already available so the task will not be too onerous, though there is obviously scope for fresh creativity, new ideas and designs.

In the past, Juliet Maclay of The Roxy Cinema took on the task of creating banners, flags and graphics to set the scene, and although Juliet is available for advice she now lives in Devon so is unable to take on the role.

The job will entail creating and completing designs and then organising a small team of volunteers to put them in place in time for the Pageant in August 2022. It is essentially designing for a large outdoor concert or theatre.

Dressing the Square is a major task but also a fabulous opportunity for a designer to think big. Whether you are a student or a professional designer you will be at the heart of the town's largest and most prestigious event.

The pageant is a two-hour long history play based on the town's history starting in Roman Britain and ending in the 21st century with scenes that include a Saxon v Dane battle, the Lady Day Fair, the Monmouth Rebellion and the coming of the train and motor cars.

It features a cast of hundreds with many roles behind the scenes including photographers, dressers, make-up, designers and marshals.

The Axbridge Pageant is set to take place at 3pm daily over the Bank Holiday Weekend, Saturday to Monday, August 27 to 29, 2022.

If you are interested in being part of the town's most exciting and creative event, you can contact the producer and production manager John Kendall on 01934 732103 or 07770 998731, or email John at [email protected].
