The bar at Wedmore Playing Fields has temporarily closed after a customer tested positive for coronavirus.

The Post and Wicket has posted on social media that a customer present on Saturday evening (September 5) who was tested on Sunday with a positive result for Covid-19 yesterday, has shown no symptoms.

All staff have today completed Covid-19 tests at drive in test centres and are now awaiting results within the next two days.

The decision to close the business yesterday with immediate effect was taken upon receiving confirmation of the cricket team player's test result one hour prior, and the bar staff say they thank him for his prompt actions.

In a post this evening, the venue wrote: "After dialogue and consultation with the local authority and the NHS test and trace programme this afternoon we can now confirm that if you were not within one metre of the positive tester for a period 15 minutes or more on Saturday evening then you will not need to self isolate, or get tested and it is extremely unlikely of virus spread.

"Please be assured that this is official guidance and not hearsay. We hope this puts a lot of minds at rest.

"We will await the results of staff testing before making a decision about our reopening date. Thank you once again for your co-operation."

A professional deep clean of the bar areas, toilets, communal areas, changing rooms and public toilets has been arranged. The venue is not expected to reopen before September 18 at the earliest.
