A car repairs business in Theale will be able to continue operating after a retrospective application for change of use for the site was approved by Sedgemoor District Council.

The retrospective planning application for the change of use of a domestic outbuilding to motor services (use Class B2) at Crookmead, West Well Lane, Theale, had been submitted by Mr and Mrs Drew.

The business, Wedmore Motor Services, started as a hobby, but became a form of self-employment for Mr Drew in 2011.

He is the only one working at the business, and that is only for 10 hours a week, with an average of four invoices per week.

As well as getting approval for the change of use from Sedgemoor, Wedmore Parish Council supported the application.

They said that the motor repair business has been operating for 10 years without any complaints, and it backs on to agricultural land.

The business has attracted a large amount of local support and provides a much-needed facility, according to the council.
