Construction of the community pavilion at Sharpham Road Playing Fields, Cheddar, is continuing apace despite delays caused by bad weather over the past three months and the additional difficulties imposed by lockdown restrictions.
The main shell of the new wing was built before Christmas and the entranceway is currently being constructed.
The building will include a large function room, smaller meeting area, bar and kitchen in the new wing and improved changing facilities for sports clubs in the existing wing.
Building completion is due in the spring, subject to further issues resulting from government restrictions.
Cheddar Parish Council chairman Peter Colton said: "During these difficult times when all team sport and indoor clubs are currently closed it is great to see this superb new community facility taking shape.
"Once the building is finished and life returns to normal we look forward to opening it up to all sections of the community.
"All facilities will be available to hire from the parish council, for social, business and private events."
The pavilion has been designed by Cheddar architect Kelly Clark and the main contractors are Jones Building Group of Yeovil.
It is being part funded through the Hinkley Point C Community Impact Mitigation Fund, in partnership with Somerset West and Taunton Council, Sedgemoor District Council and Somerset County Council, with the balance coming from Community Infrastructure Levy received from new housing developments.
