Firefighters from Cheddar were among those who put out a bus blaze that closed the M5 yesterday (June 12).

At about 1.45pm yesterday, fire appliances from Cheddar, Burnham-on-Sea and Bridgwater, along with the water carrier from Bridgwater, were all sent to a bus on fire on the M5 northbound between junctions 22 and 21, near Sedgemoor Services.

The double decker bus was severely damaged by fire and crews used one hose reel jet and two compressed air foam branches to deal with the incident.

Traffic was held on the motorway, and Highways England operated a rolling roadblock while firefighters dealt with the blaze.
