Firefighters from Cheddar were among four crews who tackled a fire on a caravan park in Highbridge yesterday (October 4).

Just after 12.45pm, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue control received several 999 calls reporting a caravan on fire in Sandacre Residential Park in Highbridge and quickly re-diverted a fire engine that was attending a different but less serious incident close by, and one additional fire engine.

On arrival crews confirmed this static caravan was well alight with possibly one person still inside.

Crews requested further assistance so another two crews were sent to assist.

The four crews mobilised in total were from Cheddar, Taunton, Bridgwater and Burnham-on-Sea.

One person was rescued by the fire service and was handed over to ambulance crew on the scene.

The caravan was 75 per cent destroyed by fire and was extinguished using six breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, a safety jet and a thermal image camera.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
