Cheddar Gorge will feature in a new ITV road trip show featuring Strictly Come Dancing judges Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli.

Craig and Bruno's Great British Road Trips is a new six-part series being shown at 8pm on Wednesdays on ITV, with the first episode having been screened this week - Cheddar Gorge will feature in the coming weeks.

Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli are exploring some of the country's most iconic and best loved road trips in this new six-part series, as the two great friends leave the dancefloor behind to enjoy some spectacular sights around beautiful Britain.

Taking on six of the ultimate scenic routes, from Cornwall to the Cotswolds, the Yorkshire Dales to the Lake District, surprise petrol-heads Craig and Bruno are massive motoring enthusiasts and determined to make some memories.

Originally hailing from Australia and Italy, the pair have both lived in Britain for many years but travel around their adopted homeland has so far been limited to showbiz tours and demanding performance schedules.

So, each episode Craig and Bruno will immerse themselves in a different part of Britain. From the twists and turns of Cheddar Gorge, the brooding mountain roads of the Scottish Highlands, the sparkling waters of the Lake District, the captivating Cornish coast, magnificent Yorkshire Dales and the dizzying heights of the mountains of Snowdonia.

Spontaneous dance moves

Featuring breath-taking scenery, fascinating stories, incredible adventures led by local experts and a shared passion for good food and spontaneous dance moves, this is a trip that promises to be as much about the journey as the destination.

Craig said: "We had to use guide books and maps because the satnav would interfere with the microphones and stuff, so we had to do it the old-fashioned way and they don't ever explain exactly as it is.

"They don't say, 'This is the most spectacular drive ever and this is what you'll see and this is what you'll experience.'

"It was up to us. The guide books didn't do the UK justice.

"And we were so lucky with the weather and things. And even when we went to Cheddar Gorge and it was raining, it was still magnificent.

"And we also couldn't believe how compact everything in the UK is. All these great places are on your doorstep."

Going off the beaten track

In terms of what the viewers can expect from the series, Bruno said: "It's surprising because previously we have gone from city to city but never actually gone off the beaten track and those drives really take you to places that you otherwise wouldn't see.

"Each region has its own particular, very different, quality, different soul and it's so unexpected."

Craig said: "I would say people will see the real us.

"They will see our relationship and what we are like actually together and what we are like as real people, rather than just as judges.

"They will see what we are like in normal life as real people. CEOs of companies, for instance, are very different at home than they are when they're working.

"So for us, and the audience, it's an insight into our real personalities. And they'll see how we challenge ourselves, but also how we get on, or don't get on!"

Surprise petrolheads

More known for the dance floor than the race track, the duo are both surprise petrolheads, with a passion for motoring.

Bruno said: "Both my parents were connected to cars.

"My father used to repair coachwork in cars and in buses as well. He always had two jobs.

"He would finish one job and then at the weekend he would work in a private garage repairing the bodywork of cars. And that was where I saw my first Ferrari.

"It was a two-seater racing car, which would be worth millions now, if it was still around. And my mum was a seamstress.

"A relation in the family used to sell second-hand cars, my mum used to reupholster them. I always saw these beautiful cars and I have loved them ever since."

"I always wanted to drive but had never ever done it," said Craig.

"Then I came across my friend's Triumph Stag. She sadly passed away aged 41, from cancer, and she had three children under the age of five.

"The car was for sale after her death to raise money for a headstone and a bench for her children to have later on in life.

"So I bought the car but I didn't have a driving licence, so it forced me into getting my licence because I loved this car and I remember her driving it all the time.

"It was her mother's car before that as well, but she had sadly also passed away. For me, the car was a memory and I also wanted to take it into the future for her children to use.

"I had it restored, and while it was being restored I got my licence. I enjoyed my lessons so much that I totally got into cars, and then after that, that was my first car.

"Over the years I fell more and more in love with it, and then I started looking at E-type Jags and all different vintage ones. Now I have an electric car, a Tesla and a pick-up truck, I have all sorts."

Craig and Bruno's Great British Road Trips will be shown at 8pm on Wednesdays on ITV.
