Cheddar Parish Council is asking parishioners to nominate residents for community awards.

These are given each year to individuals or, in some cases, groups of individuals who have made a difference to life in the village by giving service to the community above and beyond what might be expected.

This could be for doing something exceptional in the past year, or perhaps giving service over many years.

Previous winners include members of My Cheddar for landscaping the garden at Hannah More Cottage (pictured). The awards will be presented at the annual parish meeting to be held on April 22.

The parish council is also inviting applications for grants towards local projects.

Voluntary, community and not-for-profit groups can apply for up to £1,000 to help fund projects which will benefit the community. A total of £6,000 is available this year.

Up to 50 per cent of the cost of the project will be funded and applicants must show how the balance will be raised.

The council will support a diverse range of projects including, but not exclusively, the promotion of community development and self help, meeting gaps in service, support for the rural heritage, reducing crime or the fear of crime and developing new initiatives.

The deadline for receipt of both grant applications and community award nominations is March 25.

Forms for both are available from the parish clerk on 01934 743217, [email protected] or can be downloaded via the red button below.
