The contents of a NHS priority postbox in Cheddar were destroyed in an arson attack this morning (January 24).
The postbox in the centre of Cheddar was deliberately set alight using toilet roll from the nearby public toilets, and Cheddar Fire Station received a call to attend at 8.30am.
A priority postbox is one used by the Royal Mail and the NHS for the collection of completed coronavirus testing kits, and the contents of the one in Cheddar have been destroyed in the fire.
It has now been cordoned off and the Royal Mail informed, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the police.
Cheddar Fire Station crew manager Alex Howley told Cheddar Nub News: "People need to know that contents have been destroyed and that the individuals that undertook this deed have put lives at risk.
"All arson has consequences, from taking up a fire appliance and crew to destroying vital amenities and documents that support the community they live in."
