Hundreds of people have signed a petition to try and keep The Works in Cheddar.

Last week, The Works within Cheddar Garden Centre had its lease terminated, with the store's final trading day being tomorrow (December 20).

This was a decision made by the new owner of the garden centre, Hillier, and a petition was set up to either persuade Hillier to change its mind or to persuade The Works to find an alternative site in the village.

At the time of publication, 439 people had signed the petition, but Hillier has said that the termination of the lease is to do with a transformation at the Cheddar Garden Centre.

A spokesperson from Hillier: "We can confirm that as part of the transformation of the Cheddar Garden Centre, Hillier has terminated the lease for The Works at the centre.

"There is going to be a significant amount of investment in the Cheddar Garden Centre in the coming months leading up to the springtime.

"Part of this will include new businesses and concessions opening within the centre to bring more retail opportunities to the local community.

"Discussions are currently taking place about these opportunities so, at this stage, Hillier is not yet able to confirm plans."

The petition can be found via the red button below.
