Plans have been submitted to Sedgemoor District Council for improvements to the Caravan and Motorhome Club site in Cheddar.
A planning application for proposed site improvements including the construction of eight serviced all-weather pitches and the installation of a new static accommodation unit at the touring caravan park in Gas House Lane, Cheddar, has been submitted by the club.
At present, the site has 68 pitches, made up of 46 hard standing and 22 grass. There are currently no serviced pitches on the site.
The proposed works include the conversion of nine grass pitches within the grassed central belt to eight all-weather serviced pitches.
The application says that in periods of prolonged inclement weather, a number of the grass pitches become unavailable and, while a number of pitches will be left as grass, the addition of eight stone all-weather pitches would redress this issue and allow members more flexibility in their choice of pitches.
The overall effect of these proposed works is the loss of one pitch.
The site has been extended to all-year opening but staff facilities remain as originally provided, with a bathroom pod within the managers' compound.
To improve staff welfare in line with current standards, the proposals say a new static accommodation unit would be provided, weatherproofed for all-year occupation, with the existing bathroom pod demolished to make room for this facility.
The Caravan and Motorhome Club operates more than 200 sites throughout the UK providing touring and storage caravan pitches for its membership of more than 380,000 families.
The club's ethos is to create attractive and well-managed caravan sites to a high standard and with the minimum of on-site commercialism.
