Is Cheddar a nice place to live?

This is the question that was asked to Cheddar residents online recently, and you certainly had your say, with dozens of comments from local people giving their thoughts on the village.

We all know that Cheddar has lovely surrounding countryside, but what did people who live in the village have to say about life in Cheddar?

Find out below, as we have compiled a list of some of your social media comments about life in the village!

Here's what you had to say...

Question: What are your favourite things about the village and what do you love most about living here?

- "We love the people, the surrounding area, everything really."

- "I grew up in Cheddar and have always loved the scenery! The Mendip Hills, the Gorge, the reservoir. Although many things have changed since the 70s I still love walking around and remembering the happy times I had growing up in such a special village."

- "We are spoilt for choice when it comes to walks we can start from our own doorstep! There are much worse places to stay locally during lockdown."

- "I arrived here in my late 20s having met my husband who is local to Cheddar. Having been a nomad moving with parents in the forces, I realised what a community feels like. I enjoy the village with the people, love the scenery and its beauty, found some lovely friends and enjoy giving something back to the community too."

- "Where better? Who better? Nowhere and no-one are the only answers."

- "I have lived here all my life, 53 years. As has my family for four or five generations - I did escape in my teens but always seemed to gravitate back. Love the Mendips, Gorge and the reservoir among other bits. It has a great community sprit."

- "Lived in Cheddar all my 48 (nearly 49) years. Can't imagine living anywhere else. Me and my hubby have run one of the local pubs for the last 20 years."

- "Cheddar is an amazing place to live and, as my daughter says, you can leave Cheddar to live elsewhere, but Cheddar never leaves you."

- "The schools! I loved all three schools and all the friends I made back when I was school girl."

- "Just love it! Moved here when my parents split over 40 years ago! It has changed so much. When we arrived it was a small village - now it seems like a town. But I never want to move. My daughter has now attended all three schools in Cheddar as did I. I will always think of Cheddar as my home."

- "It's the most beautiful place to live. Community villagers and wide open spaces. The views from the gorgeous reservoir are breath-taking. I can never wait to come home from work and take my evening walk. All seasons constantly change the gorge Yeo, I treat it as my personal weather vane."

- "Cheddar is just the right size. Big enough to have a decent grocery store, a high school with a sports facility including a swimming pool, etc, and you can walk to all of it. The reservoir is a huge bonus feature with an exercise track that can be used year-round and the watersports facility as a regional draw. And, of course, the Gorge is an international draw bringing tourist pounds."

- "The Gorge and Caves hands down. We are so lucky. Access to the hills too."

- "The best is the people who live here, proper community, helpful and kind."
