Year 11 students at Kings Academy in Cheddar are today (August 20) celebrating their GCSE results.

Students can be proud of all their hard work and commitment over the past three years, and especially of their resilience in the face of such unprecedented circumstances.

Given the current situation, statistical trends have not been included as the focus is on the students and their next steps.

There have been some exceptional individual performances including Tabitha Fuller with 12 grade 9s; Abigail Campbell with 13 grade 8s and above; Alexander Cramp, Johannah Mathew and Billy Nash collecting 11 grade 8s and above; and Maisie Sharp achieving 10 grade 8s and above.

In addition Joe Davenport, Jemima Ryles, Thomas Vallance and Amelia Watson reached nine grade 8s and above, Katie Wright and Zion Chen achieved eight grade 8s and above, while Gina Cumberlidge, Ewan Foster and Helena Steven also achieved seven grade 8s and above, and Erin Hemms and Edward Durrant achieved six grade 8s and above.

In a year that has seen significant upheaval, more than 100 Kings students took part in the online induction day for Kings Sixth and many have been using the online Firefly resources to help them to prepare for their chosen subjects post-16.

In their time at Kings they have hugely contributed to the school and wider community, supporting the annual Charities Week, in sporting fixtures and creative events to name but a few.

Head teacher Gavin Ball said: "Every student should feel proud of the work they have undertaken throughout their education to get to this point in time and the achievements they have made.

"In this unprecedented year they have shown themselves to be dedicated and resilient young people.

"I wish each and every individual good luck in their next steps and we look forward to welcoming many of you back. I know with their continued belief in themselves they will succeed."
