A Year 11 student at the Kings of Wessex Academy, Ed Phillips, carried out a selfless act this month as he 'braved the shave' in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Research. His fundraising followed the diagnosis of his friend and fellow Kings student, David Sousa, with Aplastic Anaemia.
Ed set himself a target of raising £300 by shaving his head for the charity, however to date he has surpassed this and raised a staggering £1060! This money will go to support the work of Macmillan Cancer Research in supporting those affected by Cancer diagnoses.
The Wessex Learning Trust and Kings of Wessex Academy are incredibly proud of Ed's achievement, and are immensely heartened by the care he has demonstrated for his friend, along with the awareness he has raised within the local community.
Chief Executive and Executive Headteacher, Gavin Ball, commented: "Ed has demonstrated a selflessness and kindness which is so heartening to see. I am incredibly proud of the work he has done and the good that it will do for so many people up and down the country."
Kings and the Trust both wish David all the best with his treatment, and look forward to welcoming him, and all our students back to school in September.
