Kings Academy in Cheddar are astounded by the hard work and dedication of one of their Year 10 students, Matilda Higgins.

Matilda recently attended a Performance Band course at HMS Excellent in Portsmouth and demonstrated skill, enthusiasm and a dedication said to be unprecedented.

The course was delivered by unpaid Sea Cadet volunteers. Alongside members of the Royal Marines School of Music, the cadets and Marines came together to form an impressive display band at the conclusion of the course.

Lieutenant Dominic Gregory said: "I have been involved in the Sea Cadets for more than 15 years and have never seen such a degree of professionalism, precision and competence from any Sea Cadet band even slightly start to approach this standard.

"I'm incredibly proud that Matilda has been part of this and I suggest it's an experience of a lifetime - one to be celebrated within Matilda's cadet community and also her school. I commend Matilda's commitment and dedication to her music."

Arabella Beacham, Matilda's head of house, said: "It's so lovely to hear that Matilda has been recognised for her skills and talents.

"I am so proud of Matilda and have enjoyed watching her grow in confidence. Matilda works incredibly hard and is a dedicated young lady.

"We are so proud of her and we will look forward to seeing her next week to congratulate her."

Kings are exceptionally proud of Matilda for all that she has achieved and been commended for. The school will be celebrating her achievement further.
