A driver had a lucky escape last night (May 20) when a tree fell during high winds on to their car while driving through Cocklake.

Avon and Somerset Police received a call at 9.45pm reporting that a tree had fallen on a car while it was travelling on the B3151 Cheddar Road at Cocklake.

The police attended and a road closure was put in place to allow the highway to be cleared. Thankfully, the driver was uninjured.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind, which will be in place in the Cheddar area until 9pm today (May 21).

The warning says that windy weather may lead to some travel disruption and, perhaps, damage to temporary outdoor structure.

To go with the rain, the rest of today is expected to see persistent rain, though Saturday (May 22) should see the showers lessen, leading to some sunshine from 4pm.

However, the rain will return on Sunday afternoon, with heavy showers expected in the Cheddar area at around 4pm, according to the Met Office.
