The Rotary Club of Mendip is seeking inspirational youngsters from the Cheddar area for its Young Citizen Award.

Do you know someone under 21 living in the Cheddar Valley who is an inspiration to others, perhaps providing extra help to family, friends and neighbours in the community during the Covid crisis, or providing help and support to charitable causes?

It may be someone who deserves to have their contribution recognised by the community and who perhaps goes the extra mile to make a difference to the lives of others.

If so, you could nominate him or her for the Rotary Club of Mendip Young Citizen Award to celebrate the impact they make.

Consent from a parent or guardian will be needed for the nomination of anyone under the age of 18. Nominations close on December 31 with results in January.

The winner receives a cash prize of £100 plus £100 to donate to the charity of their choice. Other nominations may receive a certificate of merit.

One of the organisers, Roger Burdock, told Cheddar Nub News: "The Rotary Club usually runs some projects with the local schools such as Young Writer, Young Chef, Young Musician, etc, but this is an obvious problem this year, hence Young Citizen, which avoids social distancing problems, gives an opportunity for positive rather than negative views and a chance to highlight some of the remarkable work our youngsters have been doing this year, especially, of course, in the circumstances of this year."

To nominate someone, you can visit the Rotary Club of Mendip's website or Facebook page. Alternatively, you can contact Roger on [email protected] or at 8 Oaklands, Cheddar BS27 3BS.
