A new scheme is starting in Axbridge that will see IT equipment being recycled and money made used to create new computers for the town's community.

The Donate IT scheme has been set up by Axbridge Town Council, who voted to set up a free recycling point to allow residents to turn in their old or unused IT equipment.

Once recycled, the money made will be used to create laptops which will be donated back into the Axbridge community.

Axbridge Town Council is doing this in partnership with Blackmore Ricotech, a company that specialises in recycling IT equipment.

They are offering their services for free and will provide total, professional data wiping of all devices handled by the scheme.

The drop off or collection point is in the Axbridge Pharmacy every Friday from 2pm to 6.30pm.

Ben Ferguson, Axbridge town councillor, told Cheddar Nub News: "Axbridge is often overlooked for facilities and resources that go elsewhere.

"This scheme provides a free recycling point for our IT equipment with the added benefit of our recycling generating free laptops for our community.

"It is lovely to have a local scheme that both helps our environment and those in need of access of modern IT equipment."

The equipment that can be received includes carry cases, AC adaptors, mains leads, power supplies, connectors and leads, laptops, PCs, tablets and phones.

However, monitors, displays, screens, printers and fax machines can not be recycled.

If you cannot make it to the drop off point or have any questions, you can contact Ben Ferguson on 07789 016830 or [email protected].
