Plans to build nine homes off the A371 on the edge of Draycott have been turned down by Sedgemoor planners.

The outline planning application by Mr Pope with some matters reserved for the building of nine dwellings off Short Lane, opposite Draycott Memorial Hall, has been refused.

In refusing the application, the Sedgemoor District Council planners said: "The proposed residential development, for which no exceptional justification has been put forward, would constitute unjustified residential development in the countryside.

"It has not been demonstrated that the development of this site within the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty would conserve and enhance the natural beauty and exceptional character and quality of the landscape.

"In the absence of a justifiable and acceptable scheme there are no identified benefits that could weigh against the loss of this grade 2, best and most versatile, agricultural land."
