Plans for six shepherd's huts to be used for glamping in Mark have been given the go-ahead by Sedgemoor District Council.

A planning application for the change of use of agricultural land to tourism for the siting of up to six shepherd's huts at Moor View, Yarrow Road, Mark, had been submitted by Mr and Mrs Hann.

Mark Parish Council supported the proposals, saying the site is in open countryside and unlikely to cause disturbance to any residential property, with Sedgemoor agreeing and approving the plans.

The planning application said: "The proposal is for a modest glamping site of up to six shepherd's huts, which are a popular form of holiday retreat that provides a caravanning experience in a traditional rural form, without needing to bring one's own caravan.

"Such concerns have been very successful across the country and indeed globally, as can be seen from the high cost of such units.

"The proposal will increase the tourist accommodation in the area with high quality units that means that the proposal accords with Sedgemoor policy.

"There will be little, if any, impact on the countryside as a result of this proposal, as the whole point of such glamping experiences is that the holiday-maker is surrounded by the natural beauty of the countryside.

"The additional footfall brought to the area by such accommodation can only benefit the local economy especially in the current economic climate."
