Plans to site a temporary agricultural home on a farm in Weare for three years have been turned down by Sedgemoor District Council.

A planning application for the citing of a temporary agricultural dwelling for a period of three years at Mid Weare Farm, Notting Hill Way, Weare, had been submitted by Emma Gilbert.

The applicant applied for the temporary citing of the log cabin, saying that after three years she expects her business to be in a position to justify a permanent dwelling on the site.

However, Weare Parish Council objected to the plans, as did Sedgemoor, who have refused the application.

The planning officer's report said: "There is insufficient evidence that the size, scale and nature

of the agricultural operations are at such a level that there exists an essential functional need for a full-time worker to be accommodated on site.

"In addition, there are a number of available properties within two miles of the application site and insufficient evidence as to why this would not be appropriate."

Planning applications in the Cheddar area that have been submitted this week include:

Erection of single-storey side extension and porch, addition of four rooflights and render at West Brook, Wet Lane, Draycott, has been applied for by Mr and Mrs S Sturgess.

Erection of garden studio and store to replace existing artist's studio/garden store at St Omer, The Street, Draycott, is wanted by Mr Chantrey.

Planning applications in the Cheddar area that have been decided this week include:

Retrospective application for the formation of a residential parking area for 29 Parkfield Road, Axbridge, by Mr Williams has been approved.

Erection of a agricultural building with associated works at land off Silver Street, Cheddar, by Mr Young has been approved.

Variation of Condition 4 of Planning Permission 33/18/00020 (erection of garage and work area partly on site of existing garage to be demolished) to be used solely as a private garage/workshop and shall not be used for a commercial business at Victory House, Northwick Road, Mark, by Mr Anderson has been approved.
