A planning application to build five homes in Crickham has been refused by Sedgemoor District Council.

The application for the building of five dwellings on the site of existing barns to be demolished at Perrow Orchard, Crib House Lane, Crickham, had been submitted by Mr and Mrs Leavey.

The site contains a number of commercial buildings, which have been used for timber products, a builders' yard and scaffold store, and the proposal was that these were to be demolished.

In their place five dwellings were proposed to be built, three fronting the highway, in the form of a pair of semi-detached dwellings and one detached.

Access would have then led into the site where two one-and-a-half storey dwellings were proposed, and parking for all properties would have been at the rear where 19 spaces were proposed.

However, in refusing the proposal the council said the site was still viable for commercial use, and the properties did not reflect the characteristics of homes in the neighbouring area.
