Avon and Somerset Police have said they will be patrolling the area around Cox's Mill in Cheddar following a gathering of youths last week.

With the country still being in lockdown, the gathering of the youths was in breach of the Covid regulations, and the police have warned that if similar situations occur, they may have to fine parents.

A spokesperson for the police said that the gathering of youths last week was near the shops by Jacob's Ladder and Cox's Mill, though the group quickly dispersed when officers approached.

They said: "It was a one-off incident, but officers continue to patrol the location as it is obviously a known problem area for car meets and such like.

"In the first instance officers will always engage with members of the public, explain the rules and encourage them to adhere to Covid regulations, but as we've stated previously, enforcement is a route that will be taken where people flagrantly and persistently breach regulations.

"Where this involves minors, this could include issuing fines to parents."
