For many of us, lockdown has provided the excuse we needed to spend a little more time being active, whether that's doing PE with Joe Wicks, the Couch to 5k challenge, or simply dusting off the trainers and going for a walk.

However, for one extraordinary student at Wedmore First School, which is part of the Wessex Learning Trust, none of these challenges was quite enough.

Audrey – a seven-year-old pupil at Wedmore – has always been keen on cycling, and often spends weekends exploring the local area on her bike with her parents.

Now however, with schools closed for summer, she has decided to set herself the monumental task of riding 100 miles over two days to visit her grandparents in Hereford, and to raise money to support the fight against climate change.

Audrey's initiative was sparked when she bought a copy of Greta Thunberg's book of speeches and was inspired by her fight to save the planet from the threat of climate change to do something to help.

The combination of this, and the extra time to train through lockdown has led to her challenge coming to fruition, with the big ride set for August 14 and 15.

To date, Audrey has raised more than £1,000 for the WWF - money which will go to protecting the endangered species and habitats which have been hit hardest by the climate emergency we currently face.

Her ride will see her go the length of the Strawberry Line, across the Severn Bridge and over to Chepstow for an overnight stay, followed the next day by a hilly ascent to Hereford.

Chief executive of the trust, Gavin Ball, said: "Congratulations to Audrey for such an exceptional feat and for helping support such an incredibly important cause.

"Your determination at such a young age bodes great things for your future."
