Three fire crews were called to extinguish a large out of control bonfire in Tarnock overnight (April 16 to 17).

Just before midnight, Devon and Somerset Fire Control received calls reporting a large fire coming from farmland off the A38 Bristol Road in Tarnock.

A single fire engine from Burnham-on-Sea was quickly mobilised, and upon arrival the crews quickly requested the attendance of a further fire engine and a water carrier as the source of the fire was a very large bonfire, which was burning lorry tyres and commercial waste, that had got out of control.

The second fire engine from Burnham-on-Sea and a water carrier from Bridgwater were mobilised.

Crews got to work using a main compressed air foam system jet and fire extinguishers, and were able to safely extinguish the fire.
