Wedmore's cricket star Jos Buttler batted superbly last night (September 6) to earn a Twenty20 series win for England over Australia, sealing the victory with a massive six.
Jos hit 77 not out to guide England to a six-wicket win over the tourists, meaning they now have an unassailable 2-0 series lead in the three-match series.
The wicket-keeper/batsman grew up in Wedmore, and in April this year auctioned off his World Cup-winning shirt to help raise money for the fight against coronavirus.
Batting throughout at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, Jos got his 77 off 54 balls as England reached their target of 158 with seven balls remaining.
He shared a match-winning partnership of 87 with Dawid Malan and hit a huge six to see England over the line.
Earlier, England has restricted Australia to 157-7, with Jofra Archer and Mark Wood bowling the first two overs at an average speed of 90.6mph, which are the fastest opening two overs by England in T20 history.
England captain Eoin Morgan said: "When Jos Buttler is in the form he is, he really is one of the best players in the world.
"I thought Australia bowled really well today and fielded really well but there are some batsmen in the world that can take the game away from you and always look like chasing down the total, and Jos is one of those players."
