In light of predictions of hot temperatures, Cheddar Reservoir will be closed again this Friday August 7.

It is possible Cheddar Reservoir will also be closed over the weekend period, but Bristol Water is waiting until Thursday to confirm to allow for a more accurate weather forecast.

Temperatures in Cheddar are currently predicted to be 28C on Friday, 25C on Saturday and 26C on Sunday. The reservoir is closed by Bristol Water when the temperature reaches more than 23C.

A Bristol Water spokesperson said: "We're already seeing a huge increase in people adhering to the rules more generally and we especially thank the majority who do follow the rules and do not swim, litter or loiter at the lakeside."

Security will be present from the early hours of the morning, car parks locked and barriers in place to prevent access.

This first closure was last Friday (July 31). The decision to close the reservoir follows a huge spike in anti-social behaviour, where Bristol Water spoke to more than 300 people breaking safety rules in a four-hour period.

The decision was made to ensure that nobody loses their life at Cheddar Reservoir as it is never safe to swim in reservoirs.

Steve Smith, Bristol Water's head of recreations, we will be at Cheddar on the day of the closure between 9.30am and 1pm only if you'd like to do anything in person.
