The A38 is closed this morning (August 14) through Sidcot after a burst water main caused a sinkhole to appear in the road that caused a coach to get stuck.

The road is closed between the junction with the A371 to Winscombe and Oakridge Lane by Sidcot School while repairs are carried out, and this is expected to take a number of hours.

A coach got stuck in the hole after the water main burst last night, but Avon and Somerset Police have said that no injuries have been reported.

Bristol Water are now assessing the damage before undertaking repairs, and diversions are in place.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area as hold-ups are being reported. According to the latest traffic information, there are queues either side of the road closure on the A38, and through Winscombe on the A371.
