Cheddar firefighters were called to help put out a cooker on fire yesterday afternoon (September 12).

Just after 3.30pm, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Control received a call reporting a cooker on fire in Church Lane, Lympsham.

Two fire engines from Burnham-on-Sea Fire Station and a third from Cheddar Fire Station were mobilised immediately.

On arrival crews confirmed that the property was heavily smoke logged and so committed two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

Crews quickly set to work extinguishing the fire using one hose reel jet and one covering jet.

Crews then used positive pressure ventilation fans to disperse the smoke from the rest of the property. The fire was confined to the oven which sustained damage as a result.

The rest of the property also sustained some smoke damage. The cause of the fire was accidental.
