The Hillier Cheddar Garden Centre donated numerous items to local good causes before it closed due to the coronavirus crisis.

The garden centre has reassured Cheddar residents that, unlike what was reported at some other nurseries elsewhere in the country, it has not had to throw away any plants during the lockdown.

A spokesperson for Cheddar Garden Centre said: "At Hillier we have our own nursery in Hampshire, so our plants are being cared for while we are closed by our growers and will not be thrown away.

"Any plants that we were unable to maintain have been given to local communities, care homes and charities.

"In Cheddar, when we closed we donated plants to care homes, Easter chocolates to Bristol Children's Hospital and seed potatoes to local allotments."
