Cheddar Reservoir has re-opened to the public today (August 11) following a four-day closure due to the hot weather.

This has been the second closure of the reservoir following a previous one in July, with the decision to close it made following a rise in anti-social behaviour and people dangerously swimming in the water.

The reservoir has pumps under the surface and swimming is not allowed there. The site's owner, Bristol Water, reminds people that it is never safe to swim in reservoirs.

More closures of the reservoir are on the cards, if the temperature rises above the threshold of 23C again.

The current forecast for the end of this week has temperatures of 23C on Friday and Saturday, and 22C on Sunday, though all three days have showers predicted. Bristol Water makes a decision on closures 24 hours in advance.
