The Friends, Parents and Teachers Association (FPTA) of Cheddar First School is celebrating raising hundreds of pounds - but has plenty more activities planned in the months ahead.

Halloween activities, organised by the FPTA, included craft bags and a scarecrow competition, and £575 was raised through these.

All the money raised in October is going towards some new science equipment for Cheddar First School and some new soft play equipment for the pre-school.

Naomi Peat has recently taken over as chairperson of the FPTA, and she said that lots of other events are already being planned to raise more money.

Naomi told Cheddar Nub News: "We're currently fundraising for some much-needed resources for Cheddar First School and Pre-school, including ICT suite equipment and improvements to outdoor spaces.

"We're in the throws of organising an autumn lockdown craft event for the children supported by SomersetCNC.

"The pre-school and reception classes are busy making creations which will be located around the village for everyone to enjoy during the last few weeks of lockdown.

"In December we'll be running a wine and cheese home tasting event - a tasting hamper you can 'click and collect' and enjoy at home.

"For the children at Cheddar First School we're busy making plans for them to get an opportunity to see Santa, have a Christmas party and receive a gift in a Covid-safe way, before they break up for Christmas.

"We'll also be running our annual Christmas raffle and if anyone wants to buy tickets and doesn't have a child attending Cheddar First School they can contact [email protected].

"As for next year, we're already discussing new and creative ways to fundraise and put on events children, parents, carers and the community can enjoy, while being Covid-safe. It won't be easy, but the FPTA team are fantastic and are already busy making plans.

"Keeping everyone safe is paramount but we're hoping to find a safe way to run our Quiz and Fizz night again, Easter events including bingo, produce more craft bags and maybe even be some gin and Krispy Kreme events. Events may just be a bit different to usual."
