Cheddar Parish Council has appointed a new clerk and responsible financial officer.

Sarah Catling took up the position on June 1, replacing Hazel Brinton who left the parish council in February.

Sarah joins from the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Unit where she was the support and communications officer.

She brings local knowledge to the post, having lived in Cheddar since 2003, been involved with various community groups and also having worked previously at the Kings of Wessex Academy in the village for nine years.

Chairman of the parish council, Peter Colton, said: "We are delighted to welcome Sarah.

"With lockdown easing the parish council is very busy once again and she will undoubtedly be a great asset."

Sarah will be working with assistant clerk Sam Peake, but the parish office itself remains closed to all visitors for the time being and meetings are being held via video conference.
