Cheddar Parish Council has awarded grants totalling almost £6,000 to local organisations for projects which will benefit the community.

Axe Valley Men's Shed, newly established in Cheddar, has received £1,000 to refurbish an industrial unit on the Valley Line Business Park where they offer a friendly place to meet and a range of activities from woodworking to indoor recreations and interesting talks.

Other groups to receive awards are Cheddar Watersports, to provide sailing lessons to Cheddar first and middle school children, Citizens Advice Bureau for outreach sessions held at Cheddar Baptist Church, Cheddar Village Hall to replace the old moulded plastic chairs, Cheddar Artists to create some permanent works of art for public display to commemorate VE Day and Somewhere House for counselling work, particularly at Kings Academy.

Chairman of Cheddar Parish Council, Peter Colton, said: "Because of lockdowns this year some of the planned activities have been delayed, but all are very worthy causes which will benefit our community once circumstances allow."

The parish council will release details of the next round of community grants in the new year. For more information email [email protected] or phone 01934 743217.
