A house will be built on the site of the former ambulance station in Wedmore after planning approval was given by Sedgemoor District Council.
An outline application with all matters reserved for the building of a dwelling (resubmission) on land to the north east of Dawn House, Pilcorn Street, Wedmore, was submitted by Wedmore and District Ambulance Association.
The application site is located on the south side of Pilcorn Street and it once housed an ambulance station that was built in the 1950s.
The station, and a subsequent building put up in its place, were both been removed from the site some years ago.
This application was a resubmission following withdrawal of a scheme earlier this year, to enable a newt survey to be carried out.
This survey has since been carried out and the presence of great crested newts has been confirmed in a pond 40m south east of the application site.
The approved development therefore needs a protected species licence in place before works can be carried out.
