The third Wedmore 40/30 event will now take place on Sunday September 27, after the original date of July 5 was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It is a charity ride through many Somerset landmarks including Cheddar Gorge, the Mendip Hills and the Somerset Levels.

The ride has been running each year since 2018 and challenges bike enthusiasts to take on either a 30, 40 or a combined 70-mile course.

There will also be a family-friendly 12-mile course which returns by popular demand.

Weston Hospicecare is working with a group of cycling enthusiasts from Wedmore to organise the event. Money raised through ticket sales will be split between the hospice and St Mary's Church in the village.

All funds raised through sponsorship and donations will support the care given by the hospice to patients in Sedgemoor, North Somerset and Weston-super-Mare with life-limiting conditions.

There is a range of route lengths participants can choose from:

30 miles: Ride the Levels: you will head south of Wedmore towards Glastonbury and take in views of the Somerset Levels.

40 miles: The Hill Climber: ride up Cheddar Gorge, across the Mendip Hills and around Chew Valley Lake before venturing back over the Mendips to Wedmore.

70 miles: The Full House: first you will ride 40 miles across the Mendips and round Chew Valley Lake. Back to Wedmore for a quick refuel and then finish with a slightly flatter 30 miles around the Somerset Levels.

12 miles: Family Fun Ride: A short and flat route around the Somerset levels, this shorter fun ride is ideal for a range of abilities.
