The Longleat Estate has confirmed that works at a Cheddar Gorge car park to stop rock falls reaching the road should be completed by early August.

A spokesperson told Cheddar Nub News that Longleat was working on a safety bund in High Rock Car Park.

They also reiterated that they spend hundreds of thousands of pounds each year in the Gorge on rock and tree safety works.

The spokesperson said: "High Rock Car Park has been closed off for more than three years with Harris fencing, while we applied for planning permission to install a safety bund to prevent any potential rock fall reaching the road.

"This work is now being carried out, somewhat delayed due to Covid, and due for completion at the end of the month or first week of August. Many car park spaces will still remain.

"We continue to monitor and carry out planned annual rock and tree safety work along the whole three miles of cliffs that belong to Longleat, using expert specialist geologists and contractors spending hundreds of thousands of pounds every year to minimise the risk of any significant or dangerous rock fall that could harm the public."
