Our property section is full of great homes in the Cheddar area.

Here is our top pick for the week:

Six-bedroom period house, with a summer house pavilion, in Dungeon, Cocklake, offered for sale by Roderick Thomas Estate Agents.

Fig Tree Cottage is a splendid period house with great accommodation, beautiful mature gardens and a quiet, peaceful setting about a mile from Wedmore.

The house includes a large entrance hall, drawing room, dining room (table seats 12), a 21ft kitchen and breakfast room, cloakroom, boot room, laundry, six bedrooms and four bathrooms. This includes a master bedroom with an en suite and a dressing room.

There's also flexibility with several rooms also suited as a sitting room, snug, playroom, study, games room, etc. Also, a section is suitable as a self-contained flat.

Outside are a garage, parking area, a summer house pavilion, store and charming, mature and very private gardens.

A gateway with vehicle and pedestrian gates (both electric) opens to a gravel drive leading to a garage. The handsome house has stone elevations with a tiled roof and faces south into the gardens.

Its age is unknown but probably dates from medieval times and has been improved and extended over the centuries.

It is now a wonderful house, not listed, with exceptionally spacious living space and lots of bedrooms.

It has tremendous character with period and contemporary details including flagstones, the Ashlar stone fireplace in the drawing room, solid oak doors, exposed stonework, beams and window shutters.

In addition, the house enjoys double glazing, oil central heating, a well equipped kitchen with a four-oven Aga and bathrooms fitted with dual heated towel rails.

The front door opens into an impressive reception hall with a fireplace, a fine, turned staircase to the first floor and a short flight of steps to the dining room. This has a cast iron fireplace with tiled insets, oak flooring and space for a large table seating 12.

Off the hall is the 25 ft drawing room with a fireplace, window seat and a pretty French door to the garden.

A door from the hall takes one into the professionally fitted bespoke appointed kitchen. This has base cupboards, drawers, dresser unit with shelving, light granite worktops, twin butler style double sink unit, integrated Bosch dishwasher, oil fired four oven Aga cooker, and an Aga fridge and freezer.

Off the kitchen is a boot room with lots of space for coats and boots and a cloakroom with a loo. Adjoining is a laundry.

This has a double sink, granite worktop, washing machine, dryer, oak fronted cupboards and the boiler.

Returning to the main hall a doorway leads to a short stairway to a bedroom with a fitted wardrobe and an en suite shower room. Another short stairway leads to the lower ground floor.

On this level is a hall (with a garden door), a shower room and two rooms, one having an old inglenook. These two rooms can be used as bedrooms or a multitude of other uses.

The main staircase rises from the reception hall to the first floor. The master bedroom has fitted wardrobes, a walk in dressing room and an en suite bathroom with a bath and shower. There are two other bedrooms on this level and a bathroom, again with a bath and shower.

The gardens, which are very private, total just under half an acre and include a large parking area and a garage.

The house is south facing and immediately in front is a large, paved terrace with lawns and mature shrubs and trees. There is also a further terrace with a stone pavilion and a garden store.

These gardens complement the house perfectly and together combine to create a wonderful peaceful haven.
