A father and son from Clewer are in training for a 100k run in July - despite the fact that the race they had planned on competing in has been cancelled.
Dave Clarke and his son Will are still preparing to tackle the Race to the Stones course to Avebury in Wiltshire in July, despite the official race being called off due to the coronavirus crisis.
They will be running the 100k route to raise money for the Somewhere House Somerset charity, which provides a therapeutic service and community projects in the Cheddar area.
The duo have been training in the lanes around Clewer and on the hills such as Crook Peak, despite Will having injured his ankle.
The charity's Angie Clarke is wife of Dave and mother of Will, and she told Cheddar Nub News: "Will is normally in America but because of lockdown he got home just in time.
"Dave has raised money before for the charity, jumping out of airplanes, going to Everest Base Camp and all the other things I have roped him into.
"While Will isn't always around to help, he has been a steady support to allow the charity to flourish and we have helped hundreds of people in our area.
"We have tried to keep it as private as possible so that people feel confident that we are a confidential service and perhaps we have done too good a job, almost isolating ourselves from the local community.
"We have and still do use the rooms at Cheddar First School and the surgery. We do school talks at the Kings of Wessex and other schools in the area.
"We have a portable building at Burnham-on-Sea Tesco where ordinarily we see people, plus we support young people in the schools and outside. Our service covers all ages and all challenges even if it's just a chat.
"At the moment we are doing coffee and chat via Zoom, and all of our one-to-one support as well for couples and family are via phone, Zoom, Skype or Facetime. We have a fantastic system which allows us to have a secure link to talk face-to-face.
"We would love to have a portable building in the Cheddar Valley so if anyone knows of a suitable site please get in touch via [email protected]."
