Plans for an energy-efficient self-build home in Wedmore have been refused by Sedgemoor District Council.

The planning application for the building of a detached dwellinghouse and ancillary outbuilding at The Hill, Mill Lane, Wedmore, was submitted by Chris and Marina Jonas.

The applicants had hoped to build their own highly energy-efficient home on land next to their current house, but Sedgemoor planners have ruled that the site is outside any defined settlement boundary and have turned down the plans.

Planning applications submitted in the Cheddar area this week include:

Formation of new vehicle access to former dairy/chapel and agricultural buildings on land at the former chapel/dairy, Rectory Hill, Chapel Allerton, is wanted by Mr and Mrs Whittaker.

Formation of all weather riding manege on land to the north of Hythe Lane, Hythe, Cheddar, has been applied for by Mrs Shaw.

Formation of two first floor windows and erection of staircase to form fire escape at Draycott Memorial Hall is wanted by Rodney Stoke Parish Council.

Application to vary conditions 2 (Occupation) and 5 (External Alterations) on planning approval 2014/0829/FUL at Ubley Hill Farm House, Ubley Drove, Charterhouse, has been made by Mr Matt Davis.

Planning applications in the Cheddar area which have been decided by Sedgemoor District Council this week include:

Erection of a detached storage building, on the site of existing (to be demolished) at Mendip Croft, Bristol Road, Badgworth, by Mr N Weeden has been approved.

Application to determine if prior approval is required for a proposed change of use of Agricultural Building to dwelling and associated operational development at Os Field No. 4793, Stone Allerton Drove, Stone Allerton, by Mr G Brooks has been refused.

Application for removal of Condition 7 from Planning Permission 17/19/00071 (Demolition of existing dwelling and the erection of a replacement dwelling) as this is not considered necessary by Natural England at Maltlands, Draycott Road, Cheddar, by Mr Baker has been approved.

Retrospective application for the alterations to access and excavation works at Great Hills, Longbottom, Shipham, by Ms Green has been approved.

Erection of a first floor extension to north elevation at The Orchard Barn, Wells Road, Theale, by Mr and Mrs Addison has been withdrawn.

Erection of a two storey extension to side (NW) elevation, on site of existing (to be demolished) and erection of a single storey extension to the rear (NE) elevation (revised scheme) at 8 Mudgley Cross Roads, Mudgley Lane, Mudgley, by Mr Carhart has been approved.
