Plans have been submitted to Sedgemoor District Council to build a house in the garden behind a home in Cheddar.

A planning application for the building of a dwelling and detached garage on the site of an existing outbuilding that would be demolished at 1 Spring Cottage, Venns Gate, Cheddar, has been submitted by Mr Falcon.

The proposals include the removal of a large existing timber outbuilding, the construction of a single self-build house within the garden of Spring Cottage, the construction of a new single-storey garage alongside the proposed new dwelling and the amalgamation of three holiday cottages to create two.

The scale and nature of the proposed new house has been designed to be proportionate to the size, character and identity of its surroundings.

The application said: "As the existing garden of Spring Cottage was formerly part of a commercial market garden, it is extensive.

"Therefore the new dwelling can be located within this space without impact on the amenity of the neighbouring properties.

"It is proposed that access to the new dwelling shares the existing access onto Venns Gate. This entrance presently serves three houses and three holiday let cottages.

"As part of this application, it is proposed to amalgamate two of the holiday-let cottages which will mitigate any impact on access or parking from the new dwelling.

"There is ample space within the existing and extended driveway to park and manoeuvre vehicles necessary to comply with highway standards."

Other planning applications in the Cheddar area that have been submitted this week include:

Application to determine if prior approval is required for a proposed agricultural storage building at Flanders, Kingsway, Tarnock, has been made by Mrs Sealey.
