The official opening of the new hospital ward at Strode College

A new mock hospital ward for health and science T-level students, has been officially opened by Cheddar's MP James Heappey.

As part of Love our Colleges Week "Engage your MP", Strode College in Street welcomed Mr Heappey, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State and Minister for the Armed Forces, to open the new mock hospital ward.

Police and the DVSA were in Cheddar Gorge at the weekend

A number of motorists were reported for driving offences, including two for drug-related matters, during a joint operation between Avon and Somerset Police and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) in Cheddar Gorge at the weekend.

Members of the Sedgemoor neighbourhood police team and Special Constabulary carried out proactive action in the area on Sunday October 10 following ongoing community concerns relating to antisocial behaviour.

A new campaign is aiming to bring Somerset's employers and jobseekers together in a bid to help fill vacancies and provide a timely boost to local businesses.

STEP-UP Somerset, a collaborative project between Somerset County Council, Mendip District Council, Sedgemoor District Council, Somerset West and Taunton Council, South Somerset District Council and partner organisations, is calling on businesses to promote their vacancies by hosting a STEP into Jobs open doors event.

There are plans to build a pump track in Cheddar

A planning application for a revised location of the proposed Cheddar Pump Track has been given the go-ahead by Sedgemoor District Council.

The application for the change of use of land and the formation of a pump track recreation facility on land next to Cheddar Reservoir off Sharpham Road, Cheddar, had been submitted by Ride Mendips chairman Grant Garge.

A postman from Cheddar, who is famous for wearing a bowler hat, has completed one of the toughest races on the planet, and raised £6,000 for charity in the process.

Ian Maclachlan ran the 251km Marathon des Sables, along with fellow local runner Chris Hewett, to raise money for Hounds for Heroes, a charity that provides assistance dogs for disabled military and emergency service personnel.
