The planning application to expand Bristol Airport, the nearest major airport to Cheddar, was rejected by North Somerset Council yesterday (February 10).
At the opening of the debate at the special Planning and Regulatory committee meeting, Cllr Steve Hogg (Wrington) proposed a motion calling on members to refuse the application.
Somerset Wildlife Trust has successfully completed its year-long Making Space for Butterflies in Mendip project with Aggregate Industries (AI), which worked to improve butterfly habitat and food sources in the Cheddar area.
Thanks to a £22,000 grant from The Wildlife Trusts and AI's Local Partnerships Fund, a range of grassland and woodland habitat restoration work, including woodland ride management, thinning, coppicing, hedgelaying, scrub clearance and fencing works, has been carried out at Somerset Wildlife Trust's Cheddar Wood Nature Reserve.

On Thursday 6th February Year 13 Digital Media pupils met with Ollie Hulme, a journalist with over 20 years experience in local and specialist media.
Ollie was in to talk to pupils about their latest unit, Journalism and the News Industry, as part of their Level 3 Digital Media course. This topic aims for participants to understand how news is owned and created and will equip learners with better skills in researching, analysis and writing for topical subjects. This feeds into their other work as they look at ways of presenting subjects, researching, and understanding bias.
Kings Academy and Cheddar Policing Team have been taking a proactive approach to safeguarding the young people of the village by jointly holding a Drugs Awareness Week.
Key events of the week included drug awareness assemblies delivered to the students which were facilitated by the Policing Team, targeting areas around County Lines, drug possession and supply, college/university and peer pressure.

There was a large police presence, including the force's helicopter, in Cheddar in the early hours of this morning (February 5) to search for a van following a pursuit from Wells.
At 12.40am officers sighted a silver van driving at excessive speed in Woodford Road in Wells.

The Wessex Learning Trust will be hosting a Mental Health Workshop for Trust Parents at the Kings of Wessex Academy, Cheddar, tomorrow (Wednesday February 5) from 6pm to 7pm.
The workshop is run by ICM and The Space and will include conversations about young people's mental well-being and what parents can do to help them out.
